Dressing my own furisode kimono, a traditional Japanese garment with long flowing sleeves that symbolize youth and elegance.
Proper Undergarments – Wear a hadajuban and susoyoke (traditional kimono undergarments) to protect the kimono and keep its shape. Clean Hands & Space – Wash your hands and prepare a clean area to avoid staining the delicate silk fabric. Correct Tying – Be careful with the obi (belt). If tied too tightly, it may cause discomfort; if too loose, it may come undone. Weight Balance – The long sleeves are heavy. Make sure they do not drag on the ground or catch on objects. Movement Caution – Walk in small, graceful steps to avoid tripping over the hem. Season & Weather – Silk is sensitive to humidity, sunlight, and rain. Avoid wearing it on rainy days without protection. Storage After Use – Air the kimono in a shaded place after wearing to prevent mold, and store it properly folded (tatou-shi paper is recommended).
